About Me
After completing an undergraduate degree in electronic engineering from Stellenbosch University, I pursued a master's degree focused on computer vision and autonomous navigation applications. I spent five years in the telecommunications and intelligence industry working on big data solutions for national governments and the law enforcement community, and two years abroad at bol.com, the largest e-commerce platform in the Netherlands, solving problems in the search and recommendations domain.
As of January 2024 I am applying my skills in software, data and machine learning engineering at primer.io rebuilding payments and commerce from the ground up.

Member of the Data Infrastructure team at Primer – the world’s first Unified Payment Infrastructure that empowers businesses to transform their payment processes. I contribute to building and scaling the internal data platform, enabling teams across the company to easily produce, access, and work with data in an efficient and reliable way.
During this time I served as a technical lead on several data and machine learning initiatives, as well as a guild lead responsible for ensuring our engineering practices stay modern and effective.

Individual contributor of Help Me Find - a product-led group of scrums teams that make sure customers are able to find the relevant products (and ultimately buy) on the bol platform. I worked on projects that help guide customers such as search suggestions and recommendations, as well as the internal search engine where techniques like neural search and learning-to-rank are combined with traditional information retrieval techniques to improve the relevancy of search.
I was also a member of a company-wide machine learning engineer workgroup where I contributed to best practices to streamline the process of taking machine learning models to production within the bol.com landscape.
